Layers of Fears studio decides the extra ‘s’ is too scary, so now it’s called Layers of Fear again-

Layers of Fears was announced in 2022 as “a psychological horror chronicle built upon the foundations of the original Layers of Fear.” The title was kind of a play on words: The ‘new’ game is actually an updated and expanded compilation of Layers of Fear, the Inheritance DLC, Layers of Fear 2, and a new Final Note DLC—four Layers of Fear, thus Layers of Fears.

That was my assumption, anyway, but it doesn’t matter now because Bloober Team announced over the weekend that it has changed the name back to Layers of Fear, and that it will be out in June.

Why the name change? We described the Layers of Fears title not long after it was revealed as “ridiculous and good but not very search friendly,” and it seems that we were onto something—it was maybe just a bit too clever for its own good.

“By adding the ‘s’ we wanted to emphasize that this game is based on the original games but also contains new storylines that bonds every thread from the series,” Blo…

Strategic robot carnage intensifies as autobattler Mechabellum hits its 1.0 release

Strategy autobattler Mechabellum has hit its full release after 16 months in early access, with developers Game River declaring the PvP or PvE robot battling to be, finally, complete—though development will continue. With large-scale battles taking place over multiple rounds, Mechabellum has you draft, place, and refine your force of attackers to defeat your opponent’s choices and claim final victory.

It’s defined by how it places a deeper emphasis on real time strategy-style tactics and unit placement over the more hero-character RPG combat of autobattlers like Teamfight Tactics or Dota Underlords. Sometimes in Mechabellum the best choice is a swarm of hundreds of robotic infantry, other times it’s a handful of extremely powerful, thoroughly-upgraded single units.

One of Japanese horror’s most influential games is getting a remaster and its first official English translation-

Clock Tower is a game developed by the now-defunct Human Co. and released in Japan for the Super Famicom in 1995. Directed by Hifumi Kono (Steel Battalion, Infinite Space), the game is a point-and-click adventure with a survival horror theme, with the player exploring a mansion as a young girl named Jennifer while being stalked by the deadly Scissorman. It is sometimes grotesque, always scary, and came to be a big influence on Japanese horror games.

It sold well enough to get a director’s cut a year later and spawn several sequels, but Clock Tower never released outside Japan (though there are fan translations). Now Limited Run Games, which has been on a real hot streak of reviving classic games lately, has announced that in collaboration with developer WayForward the game is being re-released as a “reprint” with new elements.

“Clock Tower in particular is a game that I discovered when I was probably about 16, and it holds a really special place in my heart because at th…

The judge Elon Musk bizarrely called ‘Brazil’s Darth Vader’ gives Twitter 24 hours to comply with court order or get shut down by the full power of his legal battle station-

In the latest in a long string of calamities, cringe moments, and baffling upsets that have marked Elon Musk’s stewardship of the platform formerly known as Twitter, a Brazilian judge has given the site 24 hours to appoint a legal representative in the country or have its local operations shut down completely (via AP).

The judge is Supreme Court justice Alexandre de Moraes, and Musk has clashed with him before—even mocking him as “Brazil’s Darth Vader” in a tweet earlier this year. Back in April, Moraes ordered an investigation into Musk over the spread of fake news and a separate probe focused on obstruction, incitement, and criminal organisation.

In particular, the court took issue with Musk’s reinstatement of various far-right Twitter accounts. Moraes has gone after “digital militias” of far-right activists that have been accused of inciting violence against Supreme Court justices and spreading misinformation within Brazil, and that attempted to overturn t…
